From October 2 to 5th, 2012, Synapse organized the 2nd Maastricht Meeting on Thrombin Generation in the NH Hotel of Maastricht, Netherlands. During this meeting, more than 100 Thrombin Generation specialists (mainly CAT users) all over the world attended to these four days.
Program scheduling was balanced enough to allow general discussions and technical manipulations in Synapse's Labs, Maastricht University.
The different activities comprised:
- Lectures by experienced faculty
- Hands on experience with different available techniques
- Master-classes in which attendees had the opportunity to present their own research results
Clinicians, biologists and researchers had the opportunity to discuss various topics related to thrombin generation from basic science (FXIII, prothrombin, …) to clinical perspectives (haemophilia, blood storage, pregnancy, paediatric,…).
The last day was a celebration day dedicated to Coen Hemker's 50 years of research. It was a great opportunity to celebrate Hemker's contribution and worldwide influence in thrombin generation.
The next Meeting should be organized in 2014.
